Microsoft has a habit of reigniting the struggle between Mac versus PC over Surface ads, this time catching up with Apple’s Touch Bar. In a new TV commercial, aired during NFL Championship matches Sunday night, Microsoft pits Apple’s MacBook Pro against the company’s Surface Pro 7. It’s an opportunity for Microsoft to mock Apple’s Touch Bar in a TV commercial for the first time.
“Mac gave me this little bar, but why don’t they give me a full touch screen?” He asks a boy, comparing the two laptop computers. This is something some MacBook Pro users have been calling for, or just remove the Touch Bar altogether. Apple now He is said to be planning a redesign of the MacBook Pro Later this year, with rumors of a Touch Bar replacing the physical function keys.
Elsewhere in the announcement, Microsoft is trying to position the Surface Pro 7 as a gaming device. “It’s a much better gaming machine,” the ad says, an unusual way of framing Microsoft’s popular Surface device. Surface Pro 7 is barely capable of running the latest PC games at acceptable frame rates with Intel integrated graphics, so it’s not the biggest selling point.
This latest announcement also focuses on the older Surface Pro 7, which has now been replaced by Surface Pro 7 Plus for businesses and schools at least. The new model includes a larger battery, 11th generation Intel processors, removable SSD, and LTE.
