Three actresses have been added to the BAFTA EE Rising Star Award Billboard for Shortlisted 2021.
Oscar-winning Alicia Vikander, actress in England Joe Hartley and BAFTA-winning actress, Naomi Aki, joined the list, along with a group of industry experts, who gathered digitally to discuss the merits of the long list of emerging talent.
This is the first time that the jury has had to meet via video conference to discuss this year’s shortlist of young and emerging talent, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jury Duty: Alicia Vikander is one of three actresses to be announced as part of the BAFTA EE Rising Star Award Committee for the 2021 shortlisted
This is the 16th year the award has been awarded, with past winners including Daniel Kaluuya, Juno Temple, John Boyega, Tom Hardy, Jack O’Connell, Tom Holland and Kristen Stewart.
The award is the only 2021 EE BAFTA category to be voted on by the British public and voting will open on March 3, 2021, when the full shortlist will be revealed.
The jury debated enthusiastically about which five of them would compete head-to-head in the public vote before the BAFTAs 2021.
Accompanying Naomi, Joe, and Alicia, producer and director Anand Tucker (The Girl with the Pearl Earring), directors Leo Davis (The Queen), Nina Gould (Kings’ Speech) and Lucy Bevan (Educate) were cast.

It is an absolute honor to join the EE Rising Star 2021 jury to celebrate the new faces on our screens and I can’t wait to see what this next generation of talent will achieve.
“The award is an enviable accolade, and I can’t wait for the public to see the short list.”
Naomi’s trio concluded, “ It has been a huge honor for me to deliberate on this year’s highly talented candidates.
It was really tough to pick only five actors for this year’s shortlist and I’m sure I’ll be enjoying all of these actors’ work for a long time to come. The industry is full of talent and with the past year that we have come across collectively, I’m so grateful for projects that are still under implementation.
Talent: Juno Temple is also a former winner of this honor
Winner: Nominations for all categories will be announced at the EE British Academy Film Awards on March 9, with the concert broadcast on April 11 on BBC One [past winner Tom Hardy is pictured]
For me and I am sure of many others, art, in its many means, is an important and needed respite as we adapt to our new reality.
The EE Rising Star Award was created in honor of the late Mary Selway. A highly respected BAFTA award-winning casting director, her 36-year career has seen her act in over ninety films and have worked with notable directors such as Steven Spielberg and Clint Eastwood.
Mary’s work contributed to creating some of the most memorable characters on the silver screen and in 2001 she received an outstanding British contribution to cinema from BAFTA.
Nominations for all categories will be announced at the EE British Academy Film Awards on March 9, with the concert broadcast on April 11 on BBC One.
